Sanborn Signs 3-Year Deal with Bills

A good and dependable long snapper is hard to find in the NFL, so once a team finds one, they hold on to him. That's exactly the case with the Buffalo Bills and Garrison Sanborn.

The Bills officially announced Monday that they've come to terms on a contract with Sanborn. His agent verified that it was a three-year contract. He was going to be a restricted free agent on March 13, the start of the free agency period around the NFL.

"It's very exciting," said Sanborn when reached via telephone by WGR. "I feel very lucky because I came there almost like a trial basis. I got to come in, see what it was all about and get offered the contract. I was happy to take it because I like them, they like me, and it's great news."

After being picked up by the Bills three years ago following an undrafted free agent tryout at One Bills Drive, Sanborn signed a contract and beat out then long-snapper Ryan Neill in training camp. Since, Sanborn has played in all 48 games. The former Florida State Seminole has been perfect throughout his three years handling the long-snapping responsibilities.

"Garrison and his family are excited that the Bills organization wanted him back so he could stay in Buffalo to help the Bills achieve a playoff season," said Craig Schaeffer, Sanborn's agent.

With the Bills starting off last season on such a high note, Sanborn is looking forward to seeing how well this team can do.

"I'm very excited. You look at our team, and we've got a ton of talent," he said. "We're learning so much through these last two years. Two years ago, we started out bad and we learned how to compete and stay together and all that. Last year, we learned how to start strong and then we kind of faded. We kind of need to combine the two seasons and we'd have been a really good football team."

The Bills still have two more restricted free agents. Starting right guard Kraig Urbik and top reserve guard Chad Rinehart will both be RFA's at the start of the free agent period.
